Interesting little place run by a friendly German lady. Consists of two old rooms with a high ceiling and a knock-through arch. Relatively minimalist interior: wood floor, exposed brick; you could be drinking in a London arch pub. The long dangly silver and blue tinsel remained unexplained as did the gents which has a window allowing a voyeurs view from the building opposite. Three cask on, a good mix of strengths and styles. My Shivering Sands Timeball was in great shape (NBSS 4) and easily justifying its GBG selection. Also a collection of ciders and some better-end German bottles available. Apparently there are two pint stein glasses to be had if you fancy getting properly stuck in to your favourite brew. Whilst the place might not tick the box for traditional pub fans, I thought it was enjoyably different for the town and well-run.

Micro-pub with bare-brick walls and a compact L-shaped counter which allows for a couple of extra seats on the left-hand side. Three handpumps behind that, offering Hopfuzz Fall Out, Rudgate's Ruby Mild and the 5.2% Bingle Jells from Mighty Oak (just £3.00 because they are closing for a couple of weeks for their annual January holiday).
